The French crop unfortunately is small compared to its neighbor, and it's difficult today to find enough to import. Sadly Provence had devastating frosts in the mid 1980s which discouraged growers and many converted to vineyards or other hardier fruit trees. However Provence hears its consumer... slowly acreage is returning to the olive tree.
We have found three families who have owned and operated their mills for generations. Today they are modernized but each proudly recounts the stories of tradition told by their parents and grandparents. |
